Dr. Susan M. Nattrass is the Director and Primary Investigator for Puget Sound Bone Density & Clinical Research Center.  Under her direction more than 40 clinical trials with sponsors including Novartis, Merck, Pfizer, Lilly, Amgen, Tarsa, Takeda, Wyeth, Amphastar, QuatRx, Proctor & Gamble, Roche, Pharmacia, Glaxo-Smith-Kline, Parke-Davis, Pacific Biometrics, Praecis  have been undertaken in the areas of osteoporosis, women’s health and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Dr. Nattrass has also worked with various bone density machine manufacturers (Hologic, Norland, Schick, Metra Biosystems) over the years in 13 studies collecting normative data bases and in conducting research to improve ways of measuring bone densities at different sites of the body.

Since 1998 Dr Nattrass and her colleague, Dr. Barbara Drinkwater, have conducted a longitudinal research study of Master (40 years of age and older) Women Athletes that examines the effects of hormone therapy, exercise, calcium and vitamin D on bone density.

There are numerous Primary and Sub-Investigators associated with the Puget Sound Bone Density & Clinical Research Center, including a board-certified Ob/Gyn, an Endocrinologist, a MD specializing in osteoporosis, and a Family Practice MD.  All physicians play a vital role in providing excellent medical care to study participants.  As well, Puget Sound Bone Density & Clinical Research Center has Sub-Investigators who are skilled in specialized surgical procedures when required by study procedures.

Puget Sound Bone Density & Clinical Research Center is an active member of the Washington Osteoporosis Coalition and of OsNet (national research consortium).
